Best Road Trips for your Campers this Spring

  • Posted on May 18, 2019

It doesn’t get much better than the great American road trip, except when you add a couple of campers or expedition trailers. Imagine that beautiful open road, with wild American landscapes and the ability to stop whenever the mood strikes. It’s time to load up those campers and head out on some fantastic road trips so you can spend a peaceful night surrounded by some of the best scenery our country has to offer.

Great River Road

One of the most scenic road trips in the United States, the Great River Road is one not to be missed. This trip passes through ten states, with the section passing through Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois and Arkansas being designated a National Scenic Byway.

Following the route of the Mississippi River, there is plenty of wildlife to see, as well as several campgrounds along the route where you can stop overnight to recharge for the next leg of your journey.

The Loneliest Road in America

The US-50 is frequently regarded as the “loneliest road” because of its stretch through Nevada. This route from Maryland to California can offer miles and miles of stunning scenery and some of the best landscapes in the country, with nothing but desert, mountains and clear blue skies.

If you’re following the entire route, it can offer one of the best drives through the center of the USA, covering several states, each with its own unique qualities, landscapes and culture. Even in the remote stretches of the route, there are campgrounds to be found nearby, where you spend a tranquil night in the wilderness.

Route 66

Probably the most famous road in the USA, if not the world, Route 66 is synonymous with the great American road trip. Although no longer officially called the US-66, the route runs for almost 2,500 miles from Lake Michigan to Los Angeles, with portions along the route designated as a National Scenic Byway with Historic Route 66 signage.

There are plenty of things to see along the route, with campgrounds dotted along the way, allowing for overnight rest stops. It can be a great trip to take with your family, as there are lots of diners, culturally significant buildings and opportunities to explore.

Pacific Coast Highway

If you’re looking for amazing coastal views, the Pacific Coast Highway is one of the best scenic road trips in the country and is known around the world. Although it may not be a long distance road trip, the route covers miles of stunning scenery along the California coast of the Pacific Ocean with spectacular mountain backdrops on one side and the crystal ocean waters on the other.

There is lots to see and do on this route, so making the most of your campers and stopping overnight along the way is recommended. There are several campgrounds on the route, some with fantastic ocean views and beach access. Keep in mind, however, that sections of the route can be dangerous, with steep cliffs at the edge of the road, so it’s advisable to keep your eyes on the road, especially when you’re towing an expedition trailer. There are a number of places where you can pull over or stop for further exploration.

“First, thanks for all of the help and patience in preparing to order our camp. You made sure that we really got what we wanted. From the time we picked up our camp we have really enjoyed it. It pulls great, and is easy to park and set up. This camp is so comfortable. Cooking and cleaning is easy, and everything is easy to get to. You can have people in and not feel crowded. We have camped in camp grounds, by lakes, and in the hills hunting with no problems. We like camping in it best when it is cold so we can use the wood stove. There is nothing cozier than that stove. Summer is nice to; the windows are placed so there is good ventilation. The door coming in from the front is more secure feeling. The kids are fighting over who will inherit it, but we are determined to wear it out before that happens.”
